if you love your wife so much then im glad you married her
My absolute joy is watching my two under 5 year olds seeing the first snow of the year 🧡
Turns out I’m turning into a fitness guy. Been away for two weeks travelling and I’m now so freaking happy to be able to work out again now that I’m home. It’s a weird feeling and not something I ever thought would be me.
I am utterly delighted by this subversive use of Bluesky's [labels feature](https://docs.bsky.app/docs/advanced-guides/moderation), which allows you to subscribe to a custom application that then adds visible labels to profiles. The feature …
My toxic trait is shitposting in a meeting chat and watching my coworkers face to see their reactions to my terrible jokes.
Starting Blogumentation Let’s be real. I am not a great example of writing regularly. Or even occasionally. I am out right terrible at it. However, I was recently listening to an episode of Changelog & Friends podcast where Jamie Tanna (who has a website) was talking about Blogumentation and this rang true with me. Among many other things in the podcast episode. Go listen, it is great. So what? I am going to take a stab at using this blog as my own blogumentation again.
My wife is gone & meals are often a question mark when I'm alone. Luckily I'm steered by the same cognitive tricks as your average toddler - if it's chopped up small I'll eat it so gotta chop vegs - peanut butter + oatmeal +chocolate chips if I can't think of anything - eat anywhere but sitting
@em@babka.social also do Top Secret! next. Together with Spaceballs, these three are fundamental for my early comedy indoctrination
I woke up this morning, took a pill, and proceeded to have one of the most productive writing days I've had in perhaps years. The day prior, a doctor diagnosed me with Adult ADHD. I finally drew the unfortunate trauma diagram that's been in my head for years now. In a pretty short timefra
I have updated my handle to include my own domain on Bluesky now: https://bsky.app/profile/loftio.co.uk
Y'know when you feel your whole body let go of stress that you'd pushed into the background so you could keep functioning day-to-day because life is too busy right now and there's so many other things to be dealing with and you suddenly feel like crying with emotion because after all the shit there's finally some good news? Yeah. That.
Me: so it seems I'm probably #ADHD Friend: yeah, we know Me: what? Why didn't you tell me? Friend: we assumed you already knew!

Learn how to use OpenTelemetry to instrument your Go applications for distributed tracing
Hiding your face isn’t having privacy. Living in a society where you don’t have to hide your face is having privacy.
Usually "unlimited holiday" is a red flag This year I'll have taken a total of 41 days of holiday (including the legally required minimum of 28 days here in the UK) It's nice to be able to actually use extra without being made to feel guilty or have it dangled like a carrot but never given

I know what to do with all this anger. If I couldn't turn anger into action, I'd be in a different line of work. But I don't know what to do with all this grief for the things that I wanted to do and to build in the next few years that will never happen now.

officially been at my job for 4 years! according to an internal app, that’s more than 91% of employees help I am so old
“Wow Bluesky is getting popular! You should sign up!” “Interesting. Who are all the new users?” “People who stayed on X for 2 years” (-_-)
Our Thor-shaped gay neighbor going out of his way to check in on our two-small-queer-women household every single day is the thread keeping me going right now Never fucking apologizing for living where we're safe again, and that goes for online spaces too
My middle name is Monica, I’m named after an Argentinian sex worker who helped my father escape when it became known the police were looking for him. He was studying medicine and was secretly an errand boy for an underground newspaper. By the time it was clear he had to leave, he had no options left. I don’t know anything about her except that I wouldn’t be here if she hadn’t helped him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_War https://social.vivaldi.net/@Patricia/113462674712847803
oh, I see, so it’s fine when SummoningSalt posts a video about a hotly-contested game speedrun, but when *I’m* the one getting beaten repeatedly for fun suddenly that’s “violating YouTube’s community guidelines”?
god forbid a woman have kinks
The journey to #FOSDEM begins with a single Pull Request. https://github.com/FOSDEM/website/pull/259 Hopefully that'll help people travelling to the event.

Attached: 1 image Block which renamed itself from Square to rebrand itself as a blockchain platform is winding down its blockchain platform efforts. It’s now clear that there is little value in blockchains and crypto as a technology platform. Crypto has found a niche as a form of speculative assets for financial risk takers and a tool for moving money around while avoiding regulation (e.g. ransomware payments, foreign remittances, etc). https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2024/11/08/jack-dorsey-dramatically-shutters-blocks-tbd-crypto-unit.html
I'm not going to lie - I've always wanted darker, more troubling Lego sets that explore the less pleasant sides of humanity. Red Light districts, military stuff, disaster sets, and so on. The world isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and I wish Lego would sometimes reflect that. Wild that AliExpress comes to the fucking rescue.
Banning or not banning Working from Home is so indicative of the black and white days we are living in. Working from Home is great for some, awful for some and Working from Office is great for some, awful for some. As with everything: Don’t outright ban or require it. Make **mindful decisions** that’s perceptive to the needs of your employees and which makes them perform optimally both individually and collectively 🙏

@Edent@mastodon.social If there is a session you really want to see, possibly go to the session before it so you can get a seat. Be careful with backpacks in the corridors, turn with care. On the Friday night, Delirium is very much the place to be. For those that drink alcohol, Delirium Tremens is a really nice 8% ale. (Happy to be corrected) I think it is the number 75 bus that gets you from the city centre to the university.
I have been incredibly organised and booked my #FOSDEM travel and hotel. My first time going (!) so grateful for any tips, advice, warnings, memes, in-jokes, and suggestions from regular attendees.
@sindarina@ngmx.com nah lunnyduke is drilling up drama bc we stopped letting asshats win by default

macOS comes with a lot of built-in utilities. Here's a list of some that I find interesting.
Attached: 1 image Just discovered litecli (https://github.com/dbcli/litecli), it feels like a big improvement over the default SQLite REPL (autocompletion! support for multiline queries! syntax highlighting!)
Nothing more fun than tracking down the auto-started videos after a browser update 😅 Nothing less fun than when it is your own voice piped into your ears 🙈
This is NOT what America is about. America is about *opens history book* uh oh *Frantically starts flipping though pages* uh oh. oh no. no no no. uh oh

Attached: 1 image If I were a professional event planner and I was thinking to myself “hmm let’s take the queerest and most neurodivergent group of engineers we know and put them all together in a room on an election year” I’d probably put them in Utah. Because that seems safe. Very safe. The safest.
We're about to see every wannabe bootlicker, who held out because they didn't think they could get away with doing what it would take to get in his good graces, hop on the train to the abyss and benefit as much as they can over the next 4 years like all the others did with no real consequences.
Thank you for joining us earlier today to hear me gush about my #IndieWeb journey at Open UK Digital. I posted the slides and some of my incomplete transcription in the following link, ahead of posting it on my own blog: ➡️ https://noti.st/anarodrigues/AwmjTY/slides PS.: There's a Homebrew Website Club starting soon https://events.indieweb.org/2024/11/homebrew-website-club-europe-london-tumv5DpqP4FY
