When the signal came, there was nothing subtle about it: every radio telescope on the planet redlined. First primes, then simple arithmetic, then basic vocabulary, each burst richer than the one before. Finally humanity received the most complex message yet. Thousands of researchers and ad hoc internet communities raced to decode it. "Are you crabs yet?" Hesitantly, humanity replied, "No." "Oh," came the reply. "Sorry to bother you." Silence followed.

Happy #BiVisibilityDay! I always take the opportunity to remind folks I'm bi because, if I don't, people make assumptions. You can be in a hetero relationship and be bi. You can be same-sex relationship and be bi. The distinction matters because bi folks face unique challenges. And, while research seems to indicate most people are bi (!!!), many people are afraid to come out because of the stigma. I'm here to tell you it's never too late to come out. Even if you're in a stable relationship, being closeted causes you harm. Do yourself a favor and join us in the sun ❤️💜💙 We'll be here to support you. #BiPride #Queer #LGBTQ #NotGayButGayIsOK

As soon as you decide to get more comfortable doing business with people, you realize there are a bunch of people you've met over your career that you definitely don't want to do business with. It's an odd feeling. In this case I ran into something that looked cool on LinkedIn. I was gonna find out more about it, then I saw who it was from. "Oh, that guy? Yeah, no. Fuck that guy."

Attached: 1 image Data informed decisions when bumping the engine range / peer dependency range of a npm module you maintain? With a new pretty-print and markdown option in my "list-dependents-cli" utility (that I created to drive the canary tests for #neostandard) that's now easy! With it one can now easily list the relevant data of modules dependent on ones module – in the terminal as well as copy it as markdown into an issue. Here's a real world example: https://github.com/eslint-community/eslint-utils/issues/233#issuecomment-2355754090

Back in 2014, I was obsessed with Brazilian jiu-jitsu. After several years of training, competing and leading the UCL Brazilian jiu-jitsu society, one of my jobs was to find coaches for our classes. It was through this role that I met Miles — a brilliant athlete, dependable, an amazing guy and always had a beaming […]

Attached: 1 image Hey all, I turned 30 this week! 🎈 I feel a bit weird asking for a "present" but if my code, writing, or talks reached you over the years, I would love to receive a postcard from wherever you live 📮 Open source is deeply rewarding, but sometimes I miss a physical reminder of the people on the other side of the wire ✨ Also, if you mention in the card making a donation to a US 501(c)(3) that aligns with my values, I will match it! Stop defining "developer experience" as "the inner loop while I'm writing code after spending an hour installing node_modules". Setup time is "developer experience". Upgrade toil is "developer experience". Memoise-everything-after-weeks-debugging-stray-rerender toil is "developer experience". Belated, frantic code splitting side quests are "developer experience".

I don't know if I ever will stand up and talk about this practice in public, because it's a somewhat terrifying idea to imagine all the potential backlash or judgment idk, but if I did and everyone agreed, there is a GREAT talk I've imagined: "The Salary Ring." I'd describe these couple of years in my life when several of us joined together to support each other learning to negotiate, doing group market research, workshopping what we'd say in toxic situations together.

My no-nuance take on the recent discourse: I am not less than the other people in the IndieWeb community for not having a fancy, automated, cool setup on my personal website. Nobody has ever made me feel that way. It doesn't matter if all you have is a simple page with your name and email. If there is one place where you can do whatever you want and how you want is your personal website. I'm lucky to have found a community that supports this.
