Yes is the short answer - Aaron Parecki has been working on it and it seems like it takes a good chunk of time to do it right. I've been using https://fed.brid.gy to allow folks to follow my site at @www.jvt.me and I send webmentions to Bridgy to auto-syndicate my posts to my followers' servers. Means I don't need an RSS->Mastodon bot and outsources all the hard work to the service built by the wonderful Ryan Barrett which may be of interest, but could also be a little too much work if you'd prefer to avoid doing it with adding a bot

100% - I wrote about this the other day (https://www.jvt.me/posts/2022/10/22/tech-industry-free-labour/) and the way that as an industry we need to be more careful about our boundaries!

Could make it a joke about writing concurrent software - mvaepgnlni, or similar, where all the letters in the name are out of order?

Very much liking the .tape format, I wish this would then be embeddable as an Asciicast (https://asciinema.org) - looks like https://github.com/charmbracelet/vhs/issues/109 is open for this so 🀞🏽

Sorry no I mean if it ie takes you two weeks to do a task that's usually two days, because you're investing in a new editor or productivity tool, then maybe there's something there to introspect. As you say chances are there are different things at play too, but if it's that you've gone from a perfectly set up IDE to a barebones editor, then thinking about whether that's the right call for productivity investment is important

πŸ‘‹πŸ½ I'm at https://www.jvt.me/kind/articles/ for my blog, or https://www.jvt.me/ for all sorts of content like posts I think readers would be interested in, what podcasts I'm listening to, etc

Yeah I guess "don't take the piss" isn't quite as descriptive as it could be. Talking with your manager and seeing what's reasonable is best, but ie taking two weeks longer to do a "straightforward" task may not be the best

#MartinLewis mine is public! https://www.jvt.me/salary/ I've recently blogged about what's happened in the year since posting it, too https://www.jvt.me/posts/2022/09/21/year-later-salary-history/

Thanks very much πŸ₯Ί I appreciate it and this is really lovely to read πŸ’œ let me know if there's anything in particular I can do to help!

That's fair. Looking at the way the AWS one works, it's a nicer design, so may just leave mine as a mostly completed repo, but glad I went through the process!

Really love the format and the very clear intention - definitely codifies similar things that I want out of them!

It's a very difficult time, and I echo your concern about people thinking COVID is over 😬

I've been a bit more isolated than before too (as very well put in https://gregorlove.com/2019/11/friends-wanted/), but fortunately I live with my partner so I'm not exactly that isolated.

During COVID I bought a house, and the overwhelming nature of it all, as well as everything going on already sent me down a depressive spiral, but fortunately with enough help from my partner I sought therapy and started working towards getting out.

One thing with therapy is finding the right therapist - I know it will feel like starting from the beginning with someone new, but could help? But either way it's still a tonne of effort so good on you going through it, and making progress on looking after yourself

Are there any hobbies / things you can do as a way to relax and focus on? I've found jigsaws/playing with Lego has helped a fair bit, whereas I would usually just use gaming as complete escapism
