To most people, allyship or even any basic form of solidarity is a chore they were pressured into when being openly hateful fell out of fashion, and they have never forgiven marginalised people for the fact that their peers tsk'ed them when they used slurs. Once you view the world through this lens, everything starts making a whole lot more sense.
