@www.jvt.me@www.jvt.me this can be a security risk, which is why many APIs don’t have it — if there’s a successful XSS attack, then an attacker can find out which account they have control of 😔

This content type is full of IndieWeb post types, which are all content types which allow me to take greater ownership of my own data. These are likely unrelated to my blog posts. You can find a better breakdown by actual post kind below:

On the request or response? I'm thinking for things like https://www.jvt.me/posts/2023/03/08/twilio-who-credentials/ it'd be nice to have an endpoint to go to similar to how https://www.jvt.me/posts/2023/01/09/aws-who-credentials/ works. I know GitHub returns headers to indicate OAuth2 scopes which is quite handy

My decks are regularly over 100 slides. Tell the story the way that works for you and your audience. What works for one person won’t for another. These made up rules compress your talent into someone else’s box. Build your own box. And then make it a platform.Post details

I wish more APIs had an endpoint to get a whoami
style response to work out if a) the credentials work and b) who they're for.
When you find a thing and want to check it's still active it's super handy, although I do appreciate that some platforms probably don't add that so you can't check if creds are active as easily

Hey - it’s #ADHDObsessionWednesday! I want to hear from my #adhd peeps: what’s your current obsession or passion? I’m still obsessed with #Mastodon, the #Fediverse, and the possibility of a better internet. So I added a bunch of #IndieWeb features to my new site. I love international women’s day bc we get to see how many people trip over themselves to *not* include trans women in it, while somehow including AFAB non-binary people??

Absolutely wild security posture by the best and brightest minds in Government. Not "let's not use WhatsApp", but "let's delete the messages, I'm sure that's safe."Post details
NEW: Government ministers are using technology that auto deletes their WhatsApp messages after posting. It’s raised fears transparency rules which demand relevant policy messages are stored (and are FOIable) are being circumvented. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/…Ben Riley-Smith (@benrileysmith)Tue, 07 Mar 2023 14:14 GMT

In better news, just got an update from Github Sponsorship system -- there is now a new non-trivial recurring contribution by a corporate user. And that makes it 2nd substantial corporate contribution for Jackson project. Looks like GH Sponsors might become a revenue stream?

This is extremely fucked up and cruel, especially considering medically vulnerable ppl are told they MUST wear their masks at all times to stay safe and if they even let it slip once and become infected and die/become disabled that’s on them

Every company has tech debt, but Twitter 1.0 had extensively invested (pioneered even) many mechanisms to safely test and deploy changes (including many types of config changes) in prod. Guess all those thousands of engineers were actually doing something worthwhile, after all.Cindy Sridharan (@copyconstruct)Mon, 06 Mar 2023 21:21 GMT
Sure, when you just write out every outage we’ve had this year and then mention that there were other issues not even included in the list it sounds bad. But what if you DIDN’T write them out like this? Wouldn’t look so bad then, would it?Twіtter API (@fake_api)Mon, 06 Mar 2023 21:20 GMT
Thinking of the time Elon publicly fired an Android engineer for saying that the app was slow because of technical debt and a full rewrite is needed to address perf problems. 3 months on, Elon himself proposes a full rewrite himself, because a config change caused an outage. 😅Cindy Sridharan (@copyconstruct)Mon, 06 Mar 2023 21:18 GMT
Everyone please stop talking about this. It was just a minor outage of the entire platform for over an hour caused by our need to relentlessly monetize every aspect of this website without any knowledgeable staff or adequate planning. This is not a big deal!
