Whatever you do, don't join Jack Dorsey's thing. He totally believes in Elon's plan to "extend the light of consciousness" or whatever the fuck he said.

If you're gonna get on Mastodon, I would like to apologise in advance for being the guy responsible for posts being called "Toots". I thought it was funny. And it is, and it's even funnier that some people hate it. I take it back, I'm not sorry. Ha ha. Toots.

I never actually saw Knives Out I’ve just been winging it for like 4 years
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (@KnivesOut)Fri, 18 Nov 2022 03:15 GMT
This is why I didn't speak there. It was huge yet weirdly anonymous. I couldn't really articulate it beyond "bad vibes", so I didn't warn others. I didn't predict the stuff around speaker fees & streaming, but just had a strong feeling it wasn't the kind of conference I'd enjoy.
Jake Archibald (@jaffathecake)Fri, 18 Nov 2022 08:54 GMT
The thing that's annoying about this is that some very high profile names know exactly what's going on and have not said a word. People have lost a lot of money. The organisers have made a lot of money. Never forget this because it will happen again next year otherwise.Post details
This @ModernFrontends conference is a shower of shit. I’ve had a number of speaker friends tell me how much a shambles the organisers have been, putting them out of pocket. Now, they’re not live streaming, even tho they have charged god knows how many people for virtual ticketsAndy Bell (@piccalilli_)Thu, 17 Nov 2022 15:49 GMT

This graph is the number of fediverse messages per day my little single-user instance has been receiving over the past year. Something is different.
I don’t want to hear that technical systems can survive without human intervention ever again.

still curious how much the college kid tracking elon’s private jet (@elonjet) on here factored into all this. elon first reached out to him nov 30 to take it down, negotiated with him over ownership of the account until jan 23, started gobbling up twitter shares around that time:Marlow Stern (@MarlowNYC)Fri, 18 Nov 2022 11:45 GMT

I was laid off from Twitter this afternoon. I was in charge of managing badge access to Twitter offices. Elon just called me and asked if I could come back to help them regain access to HQ as they shut off all badges and accidentally locked themselves out.Alex Cohen (@anothercohen)Fri, 18 Nov 2022 00:42 GMT
when twitter goes down, I recommend you spend the time you'd otherwise spend wandering aimlessly, instead reading How Complex Systems Fail, Seeing Like a State, The Field Guide to Human Error, How to Kill a City, and a lot more but those are the most widely accessible

Decided to request my Twitter archive again, and when choosing the SMS way to receive the code, I'm told that I've exceeded the number of messages. Not that I couldn't get my archive (could receive the code via email)... it's that Twitter exhausted their SMS allowance. 🍿🔥

The world’s richest man swallowed the largest civilian reporting tool in history because his plan for a centuries-long empire of infinite IVF babies and cars that only kind of do what they say do was being exposed. That probably shouldn’t be allowed to happen.

For some people this is a collapse of infrastructure. Social infrastructure, of course, in obvious ways, but also organizing infrastructure and survival and care infrastructure. Remember: A billionaire is doing this bc he does not like who was allowed to build influence on here.
