I realize this has to be sarcasm but for those that think this should be a thing maybe you should verify facts and not take someone else's word for it without doing any research.
Bradley Oliver (@ChiefBigBear83)Fri, 11 Nov 2022 19:40 GMT
Do you genuinely not understand why changing the meaning of a well-established UI element that is a core part of Twitter's brand might confuse users? Did you not predict this? We sure did.
Nelson "Parody is Impossible Now" Minar (@nelson)Fri, 11 Nov 2022 22:14 GMT
Few notes. If you teach your user base, verification means something specific, it will be hard for them to unlearn it. We learned that it's rare for a verified account trying to phish us. Changing the meaning of the check is a security issue.Post details
So, does Elon Musk's new paid Twitter Blue verification system lead to more scams? π€ Hmmm, I don't know, let's ask this Verified Twitter account over here, he seems rather official.π΅Tens of thousands of people seem to agree... βοΈπ§Gillian de Nooijer (@GillianDN)Wed, 09 Nov 2022 16:49 GMT
Jaana Dogan γ€γ γγ¬γ³ (@rakyll)Wed, 09 Nov 2022 22:34 GMT
This is why it's not fun to work on established products. You have unwritten contracts with your users and sometimes both sides are not aware of them until they are broken. Build new verticals under the same brand, that's how you kick off new greenfield products.

What sort of things are you looking at in particular? Some of the stuff my talented colleagues at Deliveroo Engineering may be able to share!

why would it not? Apple is quite literally the "clueless rich white guy" brand in all regards, why would this company be any different?

Did Twitter Blue tweet just cost Eli Lilly $LLY billions? Yes.Rafael Shimunov is on Mastodon (@rafaelshimunov)Fri, 11 Nov 2022 18:20 GMT
Eli Lilly stock isn't just tanking because of a satirical Tweet on Musk's hellscape, it's tanking because millions of people are asking why we have to pay for insulin, when it was made to be free. That's why other insulin stocks are falling too. Happy Disability Awareness MonthRafael Shimunov is on Mastodon (@rafaelshimunov)Fri, 11 Nov 2022 18:43 GMT
I mean this is objectively the funniest consequence of this whole absurd nightmare saga yet

Has anyone published a blow-by-blow account yet of what was going on inside Twitter yesterday when the Eli Lilly (and other amazing impersonations) thing happened? I refuse to believe there's no-one inside anonymously talking to the press about itSimon Willison (@simonw)Fri, 11 Nov 2022 22:29 GMT
So not only did @rem give all the #ffconf speakers a refurbished game boy, he wrote an ACTUAL GAME featuring all the speakers. The early crypto skeptics deserve more credit. Not only did they call all of this, they did so in the face of constant shaming and harrassment. Right now a disk is filling up on a server somewhere in some data center that a person who has just been laid off has been manually clearing every few days and when that disk fills up Twitter will go down.

If it's not that, it'll be an internal TLS cert expiring, and no-one knows where the CA key is kept.
