The attacks on Eddie Izzard really blows apart ‘Gender Critical’ claims not to be transphobic.
Izzard hasn’t been particularly vocal on trans issues. She’s not competing on an All Women’s Shortlist.
She’s literally just a trans person standing for public office. That’s it.
In all seriousness, if you're an adult struggling to make friends, I highly recommend looking into your local subreddit or discord.
I have met all of my IRL friends through my city's Reddit and have built a good group over the past year I hang out with regularly.

how to make friends as an adult who is not in college and also works at home and also is not extroverted
And the other thing when someone ends up in my bad column: I'm not mad at them anymore. I only get mad when I have hope.
It's more of a fundamental write-off that I'm told is way way creepier than a grudge would be.
This is one of those bits that has me thinking I'm more than just ADHD, because it takes a *lot* for me to put someone in the bad column, and I generally remember the motivating incident for life.
Up to that point, yeah I don't track or recall little irritations all that well.

I used to think it was Big of Me that I didn't Hold Grudges but then I realized I just have ADHD and simply, cannot remember what happened
This sounds as good of an advice as blocking all code hosted on GitHub dot com.
I don't think org.apache does imply any level (or absence) quality/review/etc, as projects under the Apache umbrella can act fully on their own?
if someone told me this is an animatronic I would have believed them without question and gone on with my day lol but I googled asian giant softshell turtle and it only came up with dark coloured ones I wonder if this one is albino even though the eyes aren’t visibly red
Earth and our solar system is from the Milky Way Galaxy?
Nope.
The Two-Micron All Sky Survey of infrared light by the University of Massachusetts found the Milky Way is consuming one of its neighbors.
That is the galaxy we are from.
It is called the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy.

Spring Modulith is something that excites me a bit more and it got lost a bit in the Java 17, native application and build tool discussion: spring.io/blog/2022/10/2… It excites me as it aims at better quality and maintainability.
Congrats, Oliver @odrotbohm.
<div class="paragraph">
<p>When designing software systems, architects and developers have plenty of architectural options to choose from. Microservice-based systems have become ubiquitous in the last couple of years. However, the idea of monolithic, modular systems has also regained popularity recently. Independent of the architectural style ultimately selected, the individual applications comprising the overall system need their structure to be evolvable and able to follow changes in business requirements.</p>

<div class="paragraph">
<p>Traditionally, application frameworks have provided structural guidance by providing abstractions aligned with technical concepts, such as Spring Framework’s stereotype annotations (<code>@Controller</code>, <code>@Service</code>, <code>@Repository</code>, and so on). However, shifting the focus to <a href="https://dannorth.net/2022/02/10/cupid-for-joyful-coding/#domain-based">align code structure with the domain</a> has proven to lead to better structured applications that are ultimately more understandable and maintainable. Until now, the Spring team has given verbal and written guidance on how we recommend structuring your Spring Boot applications. We decided that we can do more than that.</p>

To everyone who joined this account after I made some dumb sextoy shitpost and now has a timeline filled with android compilation intricacies and CI bitching:
Welcome to the real @buttplugio.
who's got two thumbs and just learned about github actions 10x cost multiplier on macOS hardware resources?
not me, because i'm a buttplug and lack thumbs, but i still learned about the resource price issue and now am very much at my monthly GHA usage limit
Automattic acquired Pocket Casts last July, and since we’ve been tapping away trying to make the best podcast client for people who love listening to podcasts. And! The team has been working …
Can a 10yo clame a CVE? I use @google Family Link to set time restrictions. My daughter showed me how to skip it. Her phone receives news notifications. When the time is over, look for the ones with a video. From there you can open youtube bypassing the restrictions. #hackerkids
Kids will always find workarounds to solutions adults put in place to stop them. Adults are too stupid dumb to cover every eventually.

7500 to run Twitter Vs 50 to run WhatsApp
But yes, WhatsApps literally has 5 features, none public facing, no public moderation needs, no media production, etc.
Twitter is effectively a media channel. That needs people. @elonmusk will gut and kill it.

No. Those who have had to fire people KNOW that so many layoffs = lose your best. The ones kept and stay are those who NEED that job bc they have no opportunity outside the org. We see headcount as people; you, DHH and Musk see them as cogs. daringfireball.net/linked/2022/10…
Also see how @dhh posts things and turns off replies?
That's not thought leadership, that's top down "LISTEN TO MEEEE" behaviour

"Twitter in its current form is a dumpster fir that the more than 7K employees still haven't put out after years of trying almost nothing. Yet much of the coverage is focused with hysterical intensity on the dangers of not doing more of the same." world.hey.com/dhh/need-it-ta…
And quite frankly recently there's a lot of things that have made me question @dhh competency more than usual, with just constant bad takes.
I mean Rework was essentially large print guff, not as clever as it thinks it is. PopSci thought leadership.
The bottom line is that if you fat shame people--even if it is just people you think are awful people--you are part of the problem and you are contributing to a worse society.
So, what if I can't hold a standard book? What if I'm blind and need braille? What if I can't sit very long because of pain? I'm not really reading your book?
This is what ableism looks like. It's mocking people for using alternative methods to do things masquerading as a "joke"
wishlist: hotels that would rent for the day instead of overnight. I'm often in a city from 8am-8pm, and having a reservation that only guarantees me a quiet spot until 11am or after 3 or 4pm isn't great.
do other folks have ideas that work here?
My 14 year old son is diabetic. He hasn't had covid and he's the only student in middle school that still wears a mask. He has been asked why he's wearing it still. His brother died of covid.. He has every right to still wear the mask. He shouldn't be questioned so much.
Hiring junior engineers is *amazing*, but please, please, please make sure you have support systems in place for them to learn in a safe environment. Giving them psychological safety and effective teachers will help them set a sturdy career foundation to then build upon.
I joke a lot that seeing the Peter Principle in action is an amazing cure for impostor syndrome, but if I’m being real, probably the most affirming (and effective) cure is when people you’ve worked with previously want to work with you again.
Blows my mind every time it happens.
