it is hard to believe that the cncf would have u-turned on policy if people weren't so outspoken about it, so a lot of the calls for 'civility' might as well be saying "why can't you protest quietly" anyway, didn't expect the cncf to undermine their own coc to silence people

I'm sorry to hear that someone has violated the Code of Conduct. However, surely voicing legitimate concerns over the safety of an event does not constitute harassment or abuse. Also, I am *acutely* aware of what constitutes harassment according to the CNCF CoC.
