Nicolas Höning is the Co-Founder and CEO of Seita, an open-source energy optimization and digitalization company. Nicolas took an unconventional path to founding an open-source startup, and throughout this episode he describes how creating a greener world through open-source software is more...
Zoom Recording Sharing Service We’re distributed by design, which means our company policies and values revolve around how to best work when Elasticians are spread around the world. One consequence of this design is that communication is challenging - getting everyone on the team across 14 time zones on a call regularly is not reasonable. We counter this by taking things async when possible but acknowledge that a synchronous video call has its place. In many ways this is even an advantage, a...

I just love waiting 20 minutes (and counting) for #AWS EKS to delete a namespace ... I feel so productive.
Yearly reminder that you don't *have* to do #AdventOfCode Don't let others make you feel bad for not doing it 🙂 And for those that are doing it? Have fun and learn new cool things!
I know we’re supposed to forgive people and let stuff go now, because everyone has decided that that’s productive, but in this case: No. Fuck Drew Barrymore forever.
“stop beating yourself up” NO If I did that then I’d have waaaaay more time on my hands and then I’d just beat myself up for not utilising any of it
The neurodivergent nerd instinct to work at startups so the job burns out before you do. Note: I’m fine — or at least operating within normal parameters — it’s just a stray thought.
I just meowed at Tyler as he walked by and he stopped in his tracks, turned around, and looked at me with an expression that says I must have said the most offensive thing imaginable.
Merge vs. Rebase vs. Squash. Anyone who says "100% of the time you <merge/rebase/squash>" is wrong and I'm strong in that opinion. I'm asked about this pretty regularly, so I decided to take my copy paste answer I always use and put it in a gist. 🍿 https://gist.github.com/mitchellh/319019b1b8aac9110fcfb1862e0c97fb

Le sigh. And now I must recommend Roku Sticks for people who don’t want to drop over $120 on a streaming device and/or want to use said device reliably on captive networks. https://www.theverge.com/2023/12/1/23984444/amazon-fire-tv-autoplay-ads-on-startup
It's wild how Chrome has become this generation’s Internet Explorer.

Hey, if you're the type of person that can start typing a reply to an argument, then decide that actually it's not worth bothering with and delete the reply, I want you to know: You're doing fantastic, and you should be proud of yourself. I wish more people had that kind of restraint.

The open source coding philosophy has enormous appeal to many software engineers, and with good reason. Open source libraries, applications, and operating systems are now essential to the overall technology ecosystem. And the number of open source projects is only increasing. But many developers don’t know how to get involved in open source. Or, they

Nice post from my boss about why we're giving Basecamp the heave-ho: https://blogs.library.duke.edu/blog/2023/11/30/why-were-dropping-basecamp/.
All set up for Advent of Code tomorrow! https://github.com/mrwilson/advent-of-code-2023 I'll be doing it using jq, but this time I've written a little test framework in rust on top of libjq (called jqunit, obviously) to make it easier to stage out the functionality in later, trickier puzzles. I'll be tooting my progress on here, and posting my solutions each day. #AdventOfCode

I can't emphasize enough to cis people that the term "euphoria" was chosen to translate what transition feels like because there are no other words you will associate with a feeling like this — which you obviously cannot feel. But it is not a superlative. Transitioning is the greatest relief and elation I've ever experienced. There is not a word that contains all of it. I wish I'd never experienced all that torture I didn't know I was enduring, but I wouldn't change a thing. I know things now!
