Extracting x5c
s from a JSON Web Key Set (JWKS) to PEM files with Node.js
As mentioned in _ Extracting x5cs from a JSON Web Key Set (JWKS) to PEM files with Ruby_, it can be handy to take a JWKS, such as:

And extract the full certificate chain for each key.
The below script will create somekey_0.pem
for the leaf cert, somekey_1.pem
for the next cert, and so on, by running node x5c-to-pems.js filename.jwks
:
const crypto = require('crypto')
const jose = require('node-jose')
const fs = require('fs')
jose.JWK.asKeyStore(fs.readFileSync(process.argv[2], 'utf-8')).then(async keystore => {
keystore.all().forEach(k => {
const jwk = k.toObject()
jwk.x5c.forEach((x5c, i) => {
const cert = new crypto.X509Certificate(Buffer.from(x5c, 'base64'))
fs.writeFile(`${jwk.kid}_${i}.pem`, cert.toString(), function (err) {
if (err) return console.log(err)
})
})
})
})
Notice that we're not really using anything much from the parsed JWK, so we could just parse it as JSON.
