On the one hand, I recognise my feelings about SCRUM mostly come from ptsd from the most toxic work environment of my career. On the other hand, I still think it’s bullshit
Me, describing developer work estimation industry practice: > "We start with 'points describe complexity, not time' as a guiding philosophy, and then proceed to describe all estimates in terms of time."
"We set the story points to zero at the end of the sprint" These new scrum techniques are amazing, yo!

This week we’re talking about product development structures as systems with Lucas da Costa. The last time we had Lucas on the show he was living the text-mode only life, and now we’re more than 3 years later, Lucas has doubled down on all things text mode. Today’s conversation with Lucas maps several ideas he’s shared...
Let’s be honest. When you read this post’s title, you thought it was obvious. Yet, most people don’t follow this simple piece of advice. You know that too, a...

Too many ppl seem to use Jira's breathtakingly incorrect definitions of story, epic, task—one way that using Jira distorts your process away from agility. What are they really? 1/7

You’re not “agile” you’re just microdosing JIRA

I also have an issue with anyone touting rigid Scrum practices as the way to enhance or untangle any situation because that is FALSE, and we can fight about it.

Who was it originally who said that the problem with story points is that people think that they're numbers instead of recognizing them as names of estimation ranges?

Story points are like spice levels at a restaurant. Sure, they present as numbers but they are more like labels than actual numbers.Post details

If you can get a certificate in it, it’s not Agile. You can’t certify "do what works & if it doesn’t work, fix it." You can’t certify "talk to each other." You can’t certify "build small." You can’t certify "treat people with respect." You can’t certify "pay attention & learn."

“Being agile” doesn’t mean forcing product teams to knowingly ship shite so you can generate your very own data to prove it’s shite before working in needless increments towards making it less shite.

Q. What are Story Points? A. Story Points are a way of making developers deliver faster by asking them for a random number, and then saying, “That seems a little high,” until they say a smaller number.Kris Jenkins (@krisajenkins)Thu, 23 Apr 2020 12:08 +0000
