Cancelling a subscription in protest is the only way consumers can make their voices heard. It's not "cancel culture". It's called capitalism. The very thing most of these right-wing podcasters advocate for. And guess what, the pressure is working.

Sorry, but all of this Joe Rogan/Spotify stuff is making me feel insane! This isn't about content moderation. This isn't about censorship. Spotify is a publisher and they publish Joe Rogan. There's literally no other way to look at this. garbageday.email/p/spotify-is-j…Ryan Broderick (@broderick)Mon, 31 Jan 2022 17:45 GMT
If @spotify doesn’t immediately remove @joerogan, I will release new music onto the platform. #youwerebeautifulJames Blunt (@JamesBlunt)Sat, 29 Jan 2022 09:56 GMT
The @spotify call on Rogan is the same decision that all social and content platforms make daily: Disinformation & conspiracies are more profitable than facts. Terrible opinions are more profitable than art. Amplifying the loudest is more profitable than promoting the smartest.Sleeping Giants (@slpng_giants)Fri, 28 Jan 2022 19:29 GMT
“I’ve decided to remove all my music from Spotify," Joni Mitchell wrote. "Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.” bit.ly/3ub1DkkVariety (@Variety)Sat, 29 Jan 2022 03:30 GMT
#NeilYoung almost died of polio as a kid. The vaccine didn’t exist when he was born. The illness affected his life for years. He doesn’t want others to similarly suffer due to misinformation. Media is missing that detail when discussing his protest of Spotify’s irresponsibility.Marc Luber (@JD_COT)Wed, 26 Jan 2022 01:01 GMT
We are now entering a Spotify no-man’s land. A month to listen to whatever you want without affecting your Wrapped. A time to be truly unhinged.

A few surprises in this year's #SpotifyWrapped (https://open.spotify.com/wrapped-2021/share-bd296b9dba6c4dcfbb3206f7d9ffa4a2-1080x1920?si=BlK7K4mqQj2G4uaA6J3NnA) with @Phaeleh snatching the top spot from a decade of @UppermostMusic and 59501 minutes of music!
We've done that too (but don't have kids) so Anna Dodson and I each have profiles and then there's a shared one which doesn't skew our history. But the family mix includes music from all and is quite nice!

I've just published the headlines of my #Spotify data for 2011-2019 on my site - https://www.jvt.me/series/music-in-review/ - organised per year, but also with a view across the whole decade! Enjoy a look into my music data #IndieWeb
I've just received the #Spotify data I'd requested in https://www.jvt.me/posts/2019/12/29/spotify-wrapped-data-request/ and am going to enjoy looking through all the data I've got from 2012-2020! I may even publish my own "Year in Review" of music.
Tbh I'm still using Twitter, just replying from my own site where possible (to own the data) and even when not, I'm using other #IndieWeb tools so none of it is mine per se, but at least all FOSS. And definitely better ownership. I'm looking to soon import all my old tweets to my site, as well as my #Spotify data which I received today for the last decade (via https://www.jvt.me/posts/2019/12/29/spotify-wrapped-data-request/)
Open Request to Spotify About Data Requests and Spotify Wrapped Data (2 mins read).
A copy of an email I've sent to Spotify to request my full Spotify streaming history.
I had a look at this last night and unfortunately it doesn't provide that much good data.
There's a year of listening history which may give a similar outcome, but it's not perfect
