Week Notes 24#26

A very busy week of on-call and trying to deliver the first key Renovate milestone at work, ahead of next week off for Anna's birthday:

  • Probably our busiest host-of-the-week/on-call shift since the start, and a lot of stuff going on to deal with, as well as also trying to get some stuff with Renovate sorted before Friday to make sure that the team can take advantage of that for the other pieces of work we're doing at the moment
  • After some fun trying to debug regexes with Renovate, ended up writing a test harness at work for them, and then a follow-up blog post
  • The other day I was walking home from Lidl and found that Spotify now has an Android watch app, which is much more fully featured than the native media player app
  • Had a Rikshaw takeaway for the first time in a while, which was nom (including leftovers for dinner tonight)
  • Had a reasonable first car service (belated, but thankfully done) and it really is a faff getting to-and-from the garage, but thankful for Stavros for covering on-call for a bit
  • Got sql-studio integrated with dependency-management-data thanks to upstream work, including a lot of debugging on my way home from Digital Lincoln
  • Also started looking at making it easier to manage package replacements with dependency-management-data
  • Did a lightning talk at work about Renovate, drumming up some good interest and sharing some of the cool things we're doing internally with it
  • After enjoying playing Ratchet and Clank as a sofa game, I've reinvested with getting back to playing some of my old PS2 games on my Steam Deck with emulators
    • Emudeck's been a pretty great experience, especially as PCSX2 was a bit sluggish, but for the same games, Emudeck's "just worked" and been very performant
    • Spent a good chunk of time trying to debug why none of my games would load after the main menu, and turns out they'd only partially extracted 🫣
  • Was Morph's 13th birthday (!) so he had some wet food as a treat and a lot of cuddles
  • On Thursday had lunch and Morph decided to come in after I was finished, despite knowing Cookie was at daycare and me calling him over before I sat down - and then he seemed annoyed at me despite him losing his cahnce
  • I'm not sure how, but I found Morph in the bedroom that same day, but the downstairs door was closed, I don't believe he snuck upstairs while the door was closing (he's not as confident as Cookie is with nipping through closing doors), but both the bedroom window and my office window were open. I've got no clue how he got upstairs and into the bedroom and I think it's going to be an unsolved enigma till the day I die 😹
  • Watched a video of Tycho at Burning Man which had a cool 360 view
    • Also an interview with Scott Hansen, and his voice was not quite how I imagined it - I always think of Ryan B
  • Got a no from Open Tech Fund for sponsoring oapi-codegen
  • One of the songs on my Discover Weekly reminded me of Leaving Earth in Mass Effect
  • Spoke at Digital Lincoln about dependency-management-data which was cool
  • Announced the next OpenUK Meetup
  • And it's nice to be off for the next week for Anna's birthday and catching up on various bits of house and life admin
  • This will be my 998th blog post, so I really need to get my 1000th post ready to go πŸ‘€

Played:

  • Apex Legends
  • Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters
    • Not played it before, so been good, especially as a fairly highly rated game in the series - although I'm stuck on a boss fight towards the end of the game, which is rather frustrating

Watched:

  • The Acolyte
    • Great episode πŸ‘€
  • Shogun
    • A good ending
  • America's Sweethearts
  • Rick and Morty
    • Turns out I did not finish season, and had one episode to go
  • Saturday Night Live (on YouTube)
  • New Amsterdam
  • The Proposal
