Week Notes 24#31

• A warm week
• An expensive week:
  • Bought a new fan for my office - the Dyson tower fan I won at Capital One in ~2018 has been feeling lacking in comparison to the Meaco fans we've had from Costco, and after a toasty couple of days decided to splurge on another, and it's made an incredible difference already
  • Bought a new mouse, as my MX Master 2 has been struggling, not least causing a very stressful few games of Apex Legends as it kept triggering the thumb button and Alt-Tabing, and so far enjoying the MX Master 3S
  • Bought an NVMe M.2 SSD, as I've been finding recently that iowait has been considerable, and painful
    • Required I did a fresh Arch install, which had a couple of bumps, but was fairly seamless nonetheless, and it's now up-and-running
    • But it's speeding up a few things already, so that's good
• Also managed to finally use Memtest86+ to work out which of my RAM sticks were defective - fortunately only one, so I'm down to 24GB RAM in my PC, but so far it seems more stable gaming and being able to compile things successfully with Rust. They've lasted ~7 years
• Got the speaker notification from GitHub Universe, which was unfortunately a no
  • Naturally gutted, especially as last time was a maybe, and I feel it would've been a great session, and a great opportunity for me
  • But at least it's not hanging over us, and now we at least know and can plan our October
• Recorded an episode of Go Time with Kris and Johnny, which was a lot of fun, and looking forward to sharing it on Tuesday!
  • Had some fun with my Chromium being out of date (as I was ~830+40 dependencies behind on updates) and that then failing to update, it breaking libicu (TIL that's a thing) which also broke my backup browser for recording (but also my default browser), Firefox, as that also uses libicu
  • It's very infrequent I have issues with my Arch install - despite many folks thinking "oh Linux, you'd always have issues, right" - and frustrating, especially as you're trying to record a podcast!!
  • Then spent ~a day on-and-off trying to deal with signing errors
• Annoyed by the new SwiftKey AI / suggestions that are showing up 😒
• Very excited for the new Apex Legends season
• Changelog have released custom feeds for ++ 👏🏼 Very excited by being able to have a custom feed for the podcasts I do always listen to, which I can now have auto-downloaded, and a minor but big QOL improvement for me is now that I can more easily mark them as listened to on my site, as the episode URL is now correct, and not the ++ site URL (as Supercast didn't have the metadata correct)
• Had a bit of confusion between podcast episodes as I'd swapped between the episode I was listening to ("Open is the way") for something else, and then came back to "The man behind the Sandwich" but didn't notice, so was a bit like "huh, I don't remember JJ doing that too, but that's cool" and then at the end of the episode being like 😅😅😅
• Spent a bit of time one day at work getting sidetracked by Telescope + Neovim and trying to ignore files from the :Telescope git_files, in particular for one of the repos I was working on
• Things have progressed very well with Renovate, and looking forward to launching next week 👏🏼
• Got the new kitchen tap 👏🏼 But the small one didn't get done as we'd not realised it was missing the filter, but hopefully that'll be here soon
• Had Claire and Stanley over for a little intro before he comes to stay with us for a few days in September - fairly chaotic, but they both calmed down which was impressive!
  • After a fun walk and a very exciting time while he was here, Cookie's been incredibly shattered since
• Starting to - finally - get around to the migration of colour scheme on my site from Gruvbox to Srcery, but enjoying (read: not at all) the fun of the size of my site and the (lack of) speed to trial new changes locally
• In dependency-management-data, the renovate-graph work from last week isn't quite working, and been on-and-off trying to look into it
• Cookie's been very loudly dream barking - both while watching this - and this week a few times where I've been able to hear her dream barking all the way from Anna's office 🥺🥺🥺🥺

  • Now we've got a TV License, we're rewatching from the beginning, ahead of the final season/book that we've not seen
  • Been spending a lot of it looking up things (as I've not read the books in probably a decade and a half)
  • Wish I had a daemon 😞
