Week Notes 24#39

A lovely, wholesome, few days in Wells-next-the-Sea:

  • We stayed at the very nice A Room in the Park
  • It was a very good week weather wise, and we didn't have any rain until the last morning, and even then it was fairly light thankfully
  • Walked a lot, between ~10-18k steps each day
  • Had to buy a new coat, as we realised part way through the journey I'd forgotten mine 🫣
    • I'd been thinking about a new one for dog walking, so it worked out nicely
  • We took Cookie to the beach πŸ–οΈπŸΆ
    • She loved zoomying in the sand, and the feel of digging in the wet sand, but not quite as much excitement at being at the beach as we'd hoped
    • She didn't really appreciate the tide, and after gingerly walking into the sea, then kept being chased out by the waves 🫣 Was very cute and funny
  • Was nice to be able to walk to Wells-next-the-Sea from where we were staying, but also to be fairly near things to drive, as well as being able to split the driving
  • Had some very good food (exhaustively for the top picks for the future):
    • A nice takeaway pizza on the first day from Flour
    • Had a very nomy lunch + bakery goodness from Two Magpies Bakery
    • Got some nice ice cream from John's Rock Shop
    • Had a nice sausage roll from One Coffee One (not the best ever that the sign indicated it could be)
    • Had some good ice cream from East Coast Gelato
    • Had some good bakery goods + New York deli style sandwiches from Wells Deli
    • Had a nice dinner out at the Bowling Green Inn
  • Cookie was incredibly good, handling going out for most meals, being very happy sitting outside with people and dogs going by, and she really impressed us. Not just that she's older, but we have worked on things and it's great to see it coming to fruition
  • We had a nice drink at The Globe, with Cookie, and she was very good. We were thinking about dinner, but didn't want to push it
  • But the next night we did go out to the Bowling Green Inn which was really nice, especially with a dog at the table next to us, and she was very chill!
  • Lots of air traffic in the area, which we searched around online and seems to be related to some US/UK military bases nearby
  • A squirrel tried to get in the window 🫣 But somehow Cookie was OK with it
  • There were some slightly creepy noises in the night, and with it being fairly secluded, taking Cookie out for a last minute wee made our imaginations get the better of us at times 🫣
  • Had a particularly stressful right turn onto the A1 on the way home 😬

Also:

  • It's the start of Goose Fair, so the roads are chaos, and we're hearing the noise from ours

  • Booked my hotel for OggCamp, and will book my train later this week

  • After receiving many a crash of Apex Legends I decided to look at whether it's related to my NVIDIA drivers

    • I absolutely hate the way that NVIDIA want you to log into their crappy desktop app to get auto-updating drivers
    • Which means I've not had a driver update since 2023-06-14, which is not ideal, and likely causing issues for Apex Legends
    • Now I've updated, things are so far feeling a little more stable
  • We've had a lot of Cookie and Morph together in the living room πŸ₯°

  • Managed to get seats for The Book of Mormon next year πŸ‘πŸΌ

  • Watched Guac's recent CNCF Live, especially as they'd done a "guactober" view, similar to what I'd done with DMD's report hacktoberfest

  • Although they won't arrive for my talk at DTX London on Wednesday, I've got some custom stickers made for dependency-management-data, which I'm looking forward to putting on all my devices

    • I've kinda been wanting to do them for a bit, and a bit gutted they won't be here in time to have on my laptop for my talk, but it was a good excuse to do them so I've got them
  • Unfortunately won't be having a trip to see some colleagues in London - alongside my talk at DTX London on Wednesday - so will just be a flying visit

  • Seen some interesting traffic to dependency-management-data, and 🀞🏼 some new users

  • Feeling a bit of the Sunday night blues, and like we could do with a bit more time off

  • Did a follow-up release for oapi-codegen as there were a couple of post-release fixes to do

  • Finished my CV updates

Played:

  • Apex Legends
  • Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
    • A very speedy play, completing it in a few hours
    • I didn't end up finishing the final boss - I'd mostly completed it but then had a crash, and thought as it's a small game, I'd move on to...
  • Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time
    • ... as it's meant to be a classic
    • It's been very good so far

Watched:

  • Only Murders in the Building
  • The US Office
  • The Perfect Couple
    • (As Anna's been watching it)
