Week Notes 24#49

• A nice catch-up with Mihaela
• Did some wiki'ing for Star Trek: Generations (the game), which was fun reminiscing
• My blog post about Cobra + OTel was on Golang Weekly 🚀
• A bit more Ring Fit, although not every day
• A bit of a stressful week, but looking forward to my hackathon week starting tomorrow
• Was our Decemberfest celebration at work, which was a nice first office event, and the joy of the epic snack cupboard 😋
  • Was nice to get to go to the office for the first time, and enjoy the ad-hoc conversations that are easier where you can bump into someone
  • Had a nice time at the event and meeting some of the local folks, chatting and eating good food
  • Made the rather silly mistake of walking up the stairs in Covent Garden Station - I'd not noticed it said "emergency stairs" and for some reason underestimated what "193 steps / 15 flights of stairs" would feel like 🫣
  • Wasn't too bad as a day trip - fairly productive journeys - although my back did not enjoy the train seats
  • Very nice to meet Simon Hearne and catch up 👋🏼
• Was interested to see my Spotify Wrapped data
  • Also starting to do some tweaks to my own data collection, and presenting some graphs that may visualise the data a little better
  • Listening to my top songs of 2024 highlights what awesome music I've been listening to, and I've really enjoyed re-discovering a few things
• Finished my Manual of Me updates
• Upgraded to Android 15 and basically can't see any difference 🤔
• Submitted some last minute talks to State of Open Con 🤞🏼
• Bittersweet thoughts for the Changelog Podcast Universe announcement, but looking to write some of my thoughts down in a separate post
• Had a really nice catch-up with Justin from Mend - chatting Renovate, dependencies, some of the stuff I've been doing with DMD, and hearing that I'm a bit of a celebrity at Mend 😎🤓
• We put up the tree 🎄 which looks awesome 🧑🏼‍🎄
• Asda pizza took a bit longer to make on Friday - which meant I had to push back my meeting with Justin - but gave me time to pick up a swathe of festive snacks for a festive picnic, and a ham for roasting, which worked out well - and I got to practice properly (read: being much more stingy) slicing
• Made some good progress clearing out a load of old clothes

In dependency-management-data:

• Finally finished renovate-packagedata-diff
  • Not just because tomorrow is the start of my hackathon week and I want to take advantage of it, but also cause it's been a long time coming
  • On the way back from London on Thursday, my seat neighbour asked me about what I was doing and we talked about DMD, which incidentally helped give me pause and helped me to fix one of the issues I'd been having (unsorted map keys resulting in odd behaviour) by having a few minutes away from the problem
