Another week of more changes at work, a viral blog post, appearing on Fallthrough and finalising my talk for State of Open Con:
- Wrote Go 1.24's
go tool
is one of the best additions to the ecosystem in years, and it went fairly viral- I intentionally wrote it as something to be shared + discussed wider, so am appreciative of folks enjoying it + having some good discussions
- Was a bit disappointed to see it ended up with some brigading on the original proposal, though
- As seen on reddit, Hacker News, Hacker Newsletter, Applied Go, Golang Weekly, Cup o' Go, and a few other smaller sources
- The usual levels of mixed negativity on HN and reddit, but some interesting discussion
- As mentioned on Fallthrough, not sure I'm as enthused about it as I may have originally thought when starting to write the post
- Some shitty comments about my blog but π€·πΌ
- Literally as I went to post it, someone had just posted it (showed as 0 minutes ago!), then fairly quickly hit 3 points, stayed there for a while, but then up to 10 points in ~10 mins, and when I refreshed, it was at 20
- Been nice having my new Charm-powered Matomo "live view" which has made it fun to keep an eye on the live traffic
- Towards the end of the week, I started writing a Neovim plugin for autocompletion in nvim-cmp for dependency-management-data, so I can more easily query common things
- Based on Jonas' great post
- Already getting some awesome value from it, autocompleting some of my more common
JOIN
s and being able to autocomplete JSON operations onadditional_metadata
orowner = '...'
- Looking forward to using it at work, where I spend a good chunk of my time querying some similar queries
- Used Codeqwen (via Ollama) to answer a couple of Lua questions
- Been quite fun trying to get it working, and considering what nice quality-of-life changes I'd like
- Had some Gulab Jamun which was nice, but very surprisingly was how overwhelmed by the smell Cookie was, trying to get her nose in the bowl, as if it were the amazing Xmas pate
- Watched Terence's excellent talk at FOSDEM today about the UK's Covid Tracing App, and as ever, a great talk
- And many other talks from the weekend to catch up on
- Had a good time on Fallthrough, talking API design
- Looking forward to it coming out in March, and I'll likely take some time to rethink my thoughts in a bit more detail in a blog post
- Finally got the brain power to sit down and do my talk prep for State of Open Con - in particular slowed due to some design doc thinking at work, and the ongoing changes - and feeling pretty happy with it
- Morph's been out of the living room but has been spending time in his little box bed under the shelves, which he's not used for over a year
- Finally learned that the voice from If We Ever - High Contrast is from the 1976 film Network
- As I started getting ready for Fallthrough, I thought I'd check my mic and confirm the levels sounded OK - and learned what the levels I have control of actually are, and discovered that the reason my audio was so awful on State of the Log was that I thought I was changing the "volume" but it was the "gain", and cranking it high just means you have tonnes of background noise π«£
- Meant to write a dependency-management-data birthday post, but won't get to it till tomorrow (on the way to London)
- Caught up on some TikToks
- Enjoying Axolotl-tok, as well as Hopeless Core
- After some EA downtime, I ended up installing Steam for a little better experience with playing Apex Legends
- A fair bit more (un)certainty at work, losing Dan and Tommy, and some wider re-org stuff
- Done some wiki walking on Star Wars
- Looks like my Bridgy Fed feed hasn't been updating for a few days, and seems to maybe be that it's timing out
- One day, Cookie stole 3/4 of the Crocs we had downstairs, taking them up to the bed, or into the living room, very chuffed with herself
- Accidentally stabbed the roof of my mouth with chevda, which was rather painful π
- While loading the dishwasher one day, I broke one of our favourite cat mugs' handles π₯
